Thursday Thought : Of Writing and Reading

It’s 1st August. 30 days to celebrate the Merdeka Day. It is a good time to ask our self on the achievements so far. Well at least, which box of our wish list is ticked.

Achievement can be as simple as eat clean, live healthy or maybe meeting your old friends for a reunion. I don’t know. Mine will not be that simple.

My third quarter review of my wish list is... not as good. I did managed to complete one huge debt which is a loan (pat shoulder) but I’m still not good in making more money. In fact, I did not even make extra money this year. Status quo.

As for the places to go, I only managed to step on a few places in my lists which are Hatyai, Keriang Hill & Langkawi. Langkawi is actually my annual trip. So, yeah. I also had an unplanned Sabah trip which is not in my list but another place to go annually as well. So that means, I only achieved less than half. Poor.

But...I always love to start with a ‘but’ even though I know it’s not the right thing to do. πŸ˜‘

But.. one thing for sure, I got to meet my long lost hobby & passion - writing! This is a huge success. Getting back to writing is the annual wish list where I never managed to tick a 'done' to it. I always have to argue with myself between having time constraints or enjoying my life through writing. Past years, I chose to have excuses and followed it. It is gonna be different this year.

I started with a new blog - k0pidanbuku; for my love of coffee and books. And having coffee while reading a book. And reading while having a cup of good coffee.

Kopi dan Buku. dan Bagel.

Actually I do have few other blogs before which has many followers & loyal readers. However, I have to let it go & move on to a new blog since I am actually moving on with a new life in reality. New life, new blank spaces to write on and new page of a new chapter. I started it back from zero. Hence, my blog is like a brand new but empty. No followers, no comments & very minimal traffic.

One thing I realized, the people nowadays are not as the people I know when I first started blogging, which was like 10 to 12 years ago. They did not read much. They love short cuts like a screenshot from twitter or IG stories. They prefer video which is the in-thing nowadays and of course they are into gossips and and minding people's problem (like KRT page in FB) rather than knowledge, news and facts. Hence, the pages like Siakap Keli, Ohbulan and so on captured hell of traffics.

We are going to celebrate the 62nd Merdeka Day and yet there we are, still the 'not-read-much' community. Keyboard warriors for instance, read mostly part of the stories and started to comment as if they know the whole stories. The so-called 'Bawang Rangers' will read the title and express their opinion. Kids (and even adults) will simply share & post with the intention to viral certain issues without even have a glance at the stories or check the fact. For god sake, are we a millennial or we are actually miles behind?

People actually write for someone to read. No doubt u have all the rights to read whatever articles, books, materials or posts u like but don't ignore knowledge and sharing because that can at least balance the sources u've been feeding your brain with. Brain needs to relax, hence gossips, humor and love stories maybe the best food. But brain needs to be fed with useful things too. This will train the brain to filter the good and the bad so that u won't become a plain keyboard warriors.

Well, I couldn't care less..as long as I achieved the one and only goal I've been longing for since the past few years. I've been inspired to write and I hope I won't stop even no one will read it. Writing allows me to express myself better. It builds my personality, convince me that I am capable to do anything I like and balance my daily life in a good way.

That also mean that I need to polish my knowledge by reading. More reading. Next wish list is to have a KPI on reading, especially quality stuff to read. And the journey towards the end of the year begin...

...Nkay

so much to learn & improve
